Set up the Right of withdrawal page in WooCommerce

Written by Darja

Montonio offers a convenient way to add a withdrawal page to your WooCommerce store that helps you stay compliant with EU Directive 2023/2673.

From June 19, 2026, online stores selling to consumers in the EU must offer a clearly visible withdrawal button or link, a simple two-step form where the customer confirms their intent and gives their name and order details, and an immediate acknowledgement of the request by email.

The Montonio Right of withdrawal page covers all three: it publishes the page on your store, adds a Withdraw from a purchase button to the orders in the customer’s account, guides the customer through the form and sends the acknowledgement automatically. You can read more about the directive here.

Configure the Right of withdrawal page on WooCommerce

Every notice is listed under WooCommerce → Withdrawals in the WordPress admin panel, is emailed to you, and is noted on the matching WooCommerce order. The customer gets an acknowledgement email with a request reference.

Open the withdrawal page

In your WordPress admin, go to WooCommerce → Settings --> Right of withdrawal page in the left-hand menu.

You'll need Montonio for WooCommerce plugin version 10.4.0 or newer to see this page.

Fill in your store details

  • Tick the box to Enable the right of withdrawal page.

  • Legal entity name is required. Customers won't see the form until you fill this in.

  • Return address is optional. This is where customers send items back to. We fill it in from your WooCommerce store address, and you can change it if returns go somewhere else.

  • Public contact email is filled in from your WooCommerce settings. We also add it to the acknowledgement email (confirmation email) customers receive, so if a customer replies to that email, the reply goes to this address.

Set up email routing

In Send requests to, enter the email address where withdrawal notices should go. To add more than one address, separate them with commas. You need at least one address.

  • We fill this in for you from your WooCommerce New order email settings. If those aren't set, we use your WordPress admin email. You can change it to any address you like.

  • You don't need to add your customers here. They get their own confirmation email automatically.

Choose the page format

Under Page, leave Page editor format on Automatic unless you want to switch an existing page between the block editor and the shortcode (see below).

Rename, move or translate the page

You can edit the withdrawal page in the page editor like any other page. That's where you change its title, change its address (URL) or translate it.

Your changes stay in place even if you save the plugin settings again. Saving the settings never changes the page title or address.

A shortcut for customers

Once the page is published, customers also see a Withdraw from a purchase button next to each order under My account → Orders. Clicking it opens the form with that order already loaded, so they don't need to enter the order number or email.

Click Save changes. Montonio creates and publishes a page called Withdraw from a purchase at the address /withdrawal, or at the next free address if that one is already taken. The Page section then links to your page and to the page editor so you can check it right away.

What your customers see

The form takes customers through three steps: Order, Review and Confirmation.

  • Order: The customer enters their order number and the email they used at checkout, then clicks Find order to see the items from that order. They tick the items they want to return and choose how many of each. They can also add a note under Additional information, like why they're returning the item, but they don't have to give a reason.

    • If the order number and email don't match, the customer is asked to check both details or contact your store.

    • To switch to a different order, they click Change order.

  • Review: The customer checks the summary and clicks Confirm withdrawal. To change something, they click Edit details.

  • Confirmation: The customer sees a request reference and the time they submitted it. They can print or save a copy for their records.

The form is translated into Estonian, Latvian, Lithuanian, Polish and Russian and follows the language of your store. On the page you can add your own Returning your items instructions - see the next section.

Edit the page text

The withdrawal page we create for you includes a Withdrawal Form block. To add your own return instructions, open the page in the WordPress editor.

Add return instructions

Use return instructions to tell customers anything they need to know about sending items back, like which packaging to use or which carrier you prefer.

Customers see your instructions in two places:

  • Under Returning your items, in the store details card next to the form

  • In the confirmation email they receive

You can use bold, italic and links. If you leave the instructions empty, this section doesn't appear. In the editor you'll only see a preview of the first step of the form. The later steps depend on the customer's order, so they can't be previewed.

If your store uses the Classic Editor

With the Classic Editor, the page uses the [montonio_withdrawal_page] shortcode instead of the block. The shortcode doesn't support return instructions.

Switch between block and shortcode

To switch an existing page from one format to the other, change Page editor format in the settings and save. Only the form itself changes, and the rest of the page stays as it is.

If you switch to the shortcode, any return instructions on the page will be removed.

Handle withdrawal requests

Each time a customer submits a withdrawal request, you get it in two places: by email and in your Withdrawals list.

By email

We send an email titled Withdrawal request [reference] to the addresses you added under Send requests to. It includes:

  • The customer's withdrawal statement

  • The order details

  • The items they're returning

  • A link to the order in WooCommerce

The email is always in English, even if the customer filled in the form in another language. To answer the customer, just reply to the email.

In the Withdrawals list

Go to WooCommerce → Withdrawals. The number next to the menu item shows how many requests are still pending.

For each request, the list shows the date, status, order number and customer email. You can search by order number, email or request reference.

  • Open a request to see the returned items, their prices and the total refund amount. If the customer returns the whole order, the shipping cost is included in the total. Click View order to go straight to the order.

  • When you're done with a request, click Mark as completed to move it from Pending to Completed. If you need to, you can mark it as pending again. You can also move completed requests to the Trash.

In the WooCommerce order

We also add the request to the matching WooCommerce order, so your team sees it as soon as they open the order:

  • An order note with the request reference

  • A Withdrawal requested notice in the order details. It shows how much of the order is being returned and links to the request.

What the customer receives

The customer gets a confirmation email in their own language. It includes the same details as your email, plus the request reference and the time they submitted it.

This email only confirms that the request was received. It doesn't confirm a refund or a return. You handle refunds the same way as before, for example from the WooCommerce order.

Email design and delivery

Both emails use your WooCommerce email template and sender name.

Each request shows whether its emails were sent. If an email couldn't be sent, the request is still saved in your Withdrawals list, so you won't miss it.
