For Montonio merchants to build trust, ensure compliance, and provide a seamless shopping experience, it is recommended to include key information on your websites.

This checklist has been created following the guidelines of the European E-Commerce Union (ecommerce-europe.eu).

1. Legal and business information

  • Why it’s needed: Clear legal information is required by law and demonstrates that your business is legitimate. It ensures transparency, which is essential for building trust with customers.

  • What to include: Company name, registration number, VAT number, and registered address. Display these prominently on your website to meet legal obligations.

2. Payment methods and security

  • Why it’s needed: Displaying secure payment options ensures that customers feel safe when making purchases, which is critical for conversion rates.

  • What to include: Clearly outline all available payment methods, including credit cards, bank transfers (such as Montonio), and third-party payment providers. Mention any fees, and ensure security seals (like SSL) are visible.

3. Product information

  • Why it’s needed: Detailed product descriptions help customers make informed decisions and avoid dissatisfaction or disputes.

  • What to include: Descriptions, pricing, availability, taxes, shipping costs, and warranty details. Accurate product info reduces returns and boosts customer satisfaction.

4. Clear terms and conditions

  • Why it’s needed: This is the legal foundation of your transactions. Clear terms help manage expectations and prevent disputes.

  • What to include: Conditions for delivery, refunds, cancellations, and any additional fees. Make sure customers can easily review and agree to these before purchase.

5. Privacy policy

  • Why it’s needed: Customers need assurance that their personal and payment data are secure. Privacy policies protect your business and keep you compliant with data regulations like GDPR.

  • What to include: How customer data is collected, stored, and used. Include any use of cookies or marketing practices involving personal information.

6. Return and refund policy

  • Why it’s needed: Customers must know their rights and the process for returning goods, as required by consumer law.

  • What to include: Conditions for returns, who pays return shipping, and the timeframe for processing refunds. By law, refunds must be issued within 14 days of receiving the returned item.

7. Customer service contact information

  • Why it’s needed: Easy access to customer service is essential for resolving issues promptly, which enhances customer satisfaction and reduces complaints.

  • What to include: A phone number, email, and physical address should be easily found, usually on a "Contact Us" page.

8. Shipping information

  • Why it’s needed: Clear delivery information avoids confusion and complaints. Customers should know when and how they will receive their products.

  • What to include: Delivery options, costs, and estimated delivery times, including any geographic restrictions.

9. Right of withdrawal

  • Why it’s needed: Under European law, customers have the right to withdraw from a contract within 14 days of receiving their goods. Failing to inform them extends this period up to 12 months.

  • What to include: A clear explanation of how to cancel an order and return products, including a sample withdrawal form.

10. Trust badges and certifications

  • Why it’s needed: Displaying trust certifications builds customer confidence, ensuring that your website is seen as secure and legitimate.

  • What to include: Badges like SSL certification signify compliance with trusted e-commerce standards.
