Welcome to Montonio's Help Center! If you're a new merchant setting up your Montonio plugin, you might have encountered the term "API keys." Don't worry if it sounds confusing at first—let's break it down with a simple metaphor.

In this example, we'll use WooCommerce, but the same logic applies to any platform that Montonio integrates with.

Imagine a hotel with rooms and keys

Think of Montonio as a grand hotel and your WooCommerce store as one of the rooms in a hotel. Like a hotel has keys to access different rooms, Montonio uses "API keys" to connect and interact with your WooCommerce store.

What are API keys?

API keys are unique codes that act like special keys to unlock and connect different software applications. In our hotel metaphor, an API key is like the keycard you get at the hotel reception to access your room.

Why Are API Keys Important?

  1. Security: Just like a hotel keycard ensures only you can access your room, API keys ensure that only authorized applications can interact with your store.

  2. Functionality: The keycard not only unlocks your room but might also give you access to hotel amenities like the gym or pool. Similarly, API keys allow your WooCommerce store to communicate and work seamlessly with Montonio's payment services.

How to use API keys?

Using API keys with your WooCommerce Montonio plugin is as simple as using your hotel keycard to open your room. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Find Your API Keys: When you sign up with Montonio, you'll be provided with your unique API keys. Read more: How to Find API Keys for Integration

  2. Copy the Keys: Just like taking your keycard from the reception, copy the API keys from your Montonio account.

  3. Paste in WooCommerce: Go to your WooCommerce Montonio plugin settings and paste the API keys in the designated fields.

And that's it!

Now your WooCommerce store can interact securely and effectively with Montonio's payment services using the API keys.
